İ

İzinsiz Gösteri: Yinon, first of all congratulations for your new album, the way it is, can  you  tell us what was your inspriration to make this album

Yinon Muallem: My inspiration came out of my enthusiasm to make a new album and release it to the world. I had the pieces ready, lying on the music sheet in order to be released. In the album there is different music that I wrote in the last years. I remember that last year, when I wanted to make the album I was a bit confused and not motivated. I new that it it requires lot's of time, money and energy from me and mentally I wasn't ready to start the process. So, it took my few months to pick up my self and go on with it.
Finally I found that the best reason to make this album is because I want to make it.
So, maybe we can say that the inspiration came out of a deep inner need.

İG: You have been living in Istanbul for over the past 5 years, if you identify yourself  and/or your musical style, what can you say? I mean, etnic music of Middle East, world music

YM: It's hard for me to describe my music. I'm inspired and influenced from various st
iles of music such as" Indian, Turkish, Arabic, Jewish, jazz and maybe even classic but at the end I try to make an original music that go out from my inner soul. So, maybe the best description can be "original compositions of ethnic music influenced by....etc.
Between us I will say that I'm not obliged to a specific genre so in my albums you can find music that has colors from different music stiles but the common thing that connects them is that the pieces were created by me.

İG: As being a percussion artist, you work with different musicians from all over the world and  push the borders of our imaginations by your music. Honestly to say, your combinations attracts me such as harp and drum, kemançe, tar and drum ettc.. I wonder what the major point which is underlying this openmindedness.

YM: I always liked to explore, search and try my bordersJ sometimes it's not so pleasant and easy but maybe it able me to fins interesting idea's and people along my way.
I like to go to another culture, connect to people from there and create music with them. I think that this is one of the important essences of music. That's why music is a media with no borders. The melody and the notes is in the air and everywhere. The borders are coming from the human being (ego, cultures gap, lack of communication etc).

Any way,  I think that the passion to explore the borders of my music and my self led me to come to turkey. So, if turkey it can be any other country and culture.
It gives me great pleasure to collaborate with artists from different countries.
So in my ensemble's you can find musicians from Iran, India, Israel, France and more.
The important thing is that I will feel spiritual connection with them. In other words.
This is happening when one soul is touching another.

My opinion is that when the spiritual connection is strong it brings the music to another dimension. It is not just a group of good musicians that plays together. They have also a spiritual connection and they anxious and will to create and enjoy the music together.

İG: Finally what about your future projects

YM: In may 7th I will make a big Jewish music concert on Cemal Resit Ray. The ensemble will contain musicians from Israel, France and turkey.
The idea is to introduce to the audience different stiles of Jewish music such as: KLEZMER, LADINO, YYIDIS and other instrumental Jewish music.

In a few months I will release a new recording with harpist Sirin Pancaroglu. The project's name is Tel&Ten. We are planning to record the album on a church for the acoustic sound. Also we will have a concert on April 17th at altunizade kultur merkezi
I will have a concert in Ankara on April 5th and in ODTU sometimes soon.

İG: Thank you, Yinon.
